Despite a number of coning events in West Cart} there was a good turnfor last Saturday's meeting of the Constance and Buckam's Bay Community Association (CBBCA).

Outgoing president Ian stepped the audience through the activities and goals of the previous year.

“We're a good crowd " Glen pointed out. “We try to support good causes as well as our own programs. Our Breakfast with Santa proceeds go to West Carleton Emergency Food Bank. We ran two very successful “Communing with the Spirits" evenings with the money raised going to the Arnprior Humane Society. The Halloween party raised funds for the Stephen Lewis Foundation. and the annual Steak and Lobster event put a few bucks into the St. Gabriel's roof account.

"We've held a Women's Business exhibition to showcase the talents of some of the businesses that the ladies are running so successfully here, we've upgraded our website and, apart from attending any number of very necessary meetings with the city, we put a lot of work into revising the agreement that city officials presented to US for signature.

"We couldn't sign it in the way it was presented, but we did edit it and arrived at a final form that both we and the city could live with. What's more, this will likely serve as the model the city will use in' the future with all other associations."

Glen went on to enumerate the various upgrades that had been made during the year. These included a new carpet in the link room, fresh paint, a makeover of the bar, and the installation of new speakers and sound system.

"We'll be putting in a sound-proof room divider," he said. "This will mean that the Rural Root Theatre Company, which put on two incredible performances here this past year, will be able to rehearse undisturbed at the stage end of the hall, while other activities can go on."

Glen emphasized that "without volunteers and donations, plus a lot of fund raising, none of this could happen. "People think that the city picks up the tab," he said, "the fact is that city dollars totaled $53,820.00 last year. A little over $27,000.00 goes to subsidize the operation and maintenance of the building.
